Take Back the Driver’s Seat in Your Emotional Life
Life gets busy. Between work, family, and everything in between, it’s easy to get caught up in the day-to-day and not even notice how much your emotions are running the show. Sometimes we go through tough or even traumatic experiences and don’t get the chance to fully process them. Instead, they get stored away and start showing up in how we respond to stress, relationships, or challenges — often without us realizing it.
Therapy offers the space to slow down, check in with yourself, and work through those emotions in a way that actually feels manageable. You get to decide how you want to move forward — not your past, not your stress, and not your old patterns.
Emotional pain manifesting as physical pain
Oftentimes we will notice pain within our physical body before we are able to link it to our emotional well-being. Fatigue, headaches, digestion issues, dysregulated sleep patterns, skin irritations, irregular heartbeats, shortness of breath, poor immunity can all be examples of how our body is trying to speak to us. Your body is wise and will try to let you know when something is off-balance emotionally, physically, mentally, or spiritually. By opening our minds to potential underlying causes of our pain we might stumble upon the solution to our healing.
In session your clinician will have you identify with as much specificity as possible, a strong emotion, traumatic experience, or belief that you would like to address and this is where the focus will be. The therapist will then have you determine where in the body these feelings are held, what shape they might take, and even what colour they might be - there is no wrong answer here! Once this has been identified your clinician will have you rate on a scale of 0-10 how anxious, stressed, sad, or overwhelmed you are feeling. Your clinician will then begin to reiterate the idea you have shared paired with a positive affirmation and then have you repeat their words whilst guiding you through a series of tapping movements. This process is repeated three times. As the process continues you are encouraged to intentionally and thoughtfully engage with the details of your emotional experience.
The tapping movements stimulate relaxation in the body and the verbalizations of the experiences allows you to become emotionally conscious which is essential for successful processing of memories. The goal of the physical tapping combined with spoken words is to allow you to experience and conceptualize a sense of comfort and ease.
Where did EFT come from?
Created in the 1990s by a man by the name of Gary Craig. EFT stems from ancient Chinese medicines like acupuncture that focus on the meridian system and identifies points in the body where “life force energy or qi” flows through the body - AKA pressure points. Current research has shown that tapping induces calming effects in the amygdala of our brain that helps reduce cortisol levels ultimately reducing the body’s natural panic response to stress. Tapping reduces the power of negative emotions allowing you to stay in control of your mind and your body.
Is EFT a good fit for me?
Do you struggle with increased levels of anxiety or depression that affect your daily life? Do you have past traumatic experiences that keep you awake at night? Do you struggle with addictions and controlling your cravings that are only regulated through quick fixes? Do you suffer from chronic or disease related pain that nothing will soothe? EFT can help with these and a number of other symptoms faced by an abundance of different people.
What should I expect from an initial session of EFT?
Your trained therapist will complete a thorough assessment to gain an understanding of some of your symptoms and the challenges you are experiencing. They will also ensure that EFT is a good fit for you and your needs. To ensure EFT is the right fit, it helps to come in with an open mind- much like you would with something like acupuncture. Because EFT involves tuning into the body’s physical sensations, being curious and open to the process can make all the difference in your experience.
Once you and your therapist decide that EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques) could be a helpful fit, we take things slow — there’s no diving into intense trauma or distressing memories right away.
Instead, we focus on building safety and trust in your body. One gentle technique we often use is called “replaying the movie.” This means mentally walking through a memory like you’re watching a scene unfold — noticing what stands out, where you feel it in your body, and how your nervous system responds. The goal isn’t to relive the experience, but to observe it with curiosity and compassion.
Throughout the process, we pause often to check in with your body, notice subtle shifts, and help you stay grounded. Over time, this strengthens your ability to self-regulate and gently process difficult emotions in a way that feels safe and manageable.
Everything is done at your pace — with support, clarity, and care every step of the way.
